PANDEF CROSS RIVER DECRIES DEPLORABLE STATE OF INSECURITY, CALABAR-ITU-IKOT EKPENE, EAST WEST ROADS

The Cross River State executive committee of the Pan Niger Delta Forum(PANDEF), last Sunday, rose from its emergency meeting fuming at the general state of affairs in the Niger Delta region, especially the Cross River axis.

In a press statement signed by Sen. Bassey Henshaw, state Chairman PANDEF, Mr. Dominic Kudzu, state PRO among 10 others, the group decried the spate of insecurity in the region as well as deplorable state of roads in the area.

The group said kidnappings, robbery and killing of citizens have become the order of the day and blamed the Federal Government for not providing adequate resources to fight the menace.

The group asked the Federal Government to provide patrol vehicles for each local government of the state, other gadgets as well as non interference when criminals are apprehended.

PANDEF Cross River State insisted that the illegal ceding of Bakassi has contributed to insecurity in the area as Cameroonian security operatives have been reported to conduct clandestine activities inside Cross River State. The group also condemned the scandalous and disgraceful state of the Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene road as well as Section V of the East West Road spanning Oron to Calabar. They are specially miffed that nothing has been done on the road despite the promises made by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang.

PANDEF said it was calling Cross Riverians to hold the relevant officials to account especially as elections draw close in 2023.
